On Saturday, November 12, 2016 NDU-Shouf Campus hosted an event that captivated young hearts and minds. Over 350 school students from the Shouf, Aley and South Lebanon regions flooded to Shouf Campus to participate in the Observing Night event organized by the Department of Physics and Astronomy (DPA) in collaboration with Dr. Jacques Abou Abdo, the coordinator of the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences and the NDU-SC Admission Office.
Fr. Hanna Tayar, Director of NDU-Shouf Campus, opened the event by welcoming the students and their instructors on campus. “Our purpose is to share our resources with the community and give our young generation the chance to open up to new worlds of possibilities,” Fr. Tayar said. Dr. Charbel Zgheib, Chairperson of DPA, introduced the students to the major offered by the Department that wished, he said, to share its passion for astronomy through this event.
An interesting lecture on exoplanets was then given by Dr. Cyrine Nehme, before inviting the students to the outdoor hall where they got the chance to use some of NDU’s mobile telescopes and planetarium. The charmed eyes of the students and their eagerness to gaze at the night sky and its many interesting objects were enough proof that the event was an astounding success!
